Ropp
The Ropp company's story starts out in 1869 when the cherry wood pipe was becoming very popular among smokers. The company, started by Eugene Leon Ropp in the Doubs region (East of France) employed at the time more than 100 craftsmen and pipe-makers. It even filed patents to develop the smoothest and most pleasant-to-smoke pipe. In 1917, the workshops move to Saint-Claude and the company starts making briar wood pipes. Because of the competition from both the pipe (especially from Berrod-Regad whose Butz-Choquin pipes are very successful) and the cigarette industries, Ropp SA closes its doors in 1991. Fortunately, Chapuis-Comoy (who makes the Chacom pipes in Saint-Claude) took over the Ropp brand. Ropp pipes are very good value for money, and are enjoyed for their good quality and classic style. On our online shop, you'll find pieces you won't see anywhere else, with for instance, pretty pipes with a vintage design and a stem made of genuine horn...
