Why use a pipe cleaner?

After each smoke, let the pipe cool. Then, remove the stem, using a turning, not pulling, motion. Run a pipe cleaner or two through the stem until it comes out clean. If you've removed the stem, do the same with the shank.

How to use these pipe cleaners?

Before anything, make sure your pipe has cooled down completely before disassembling it. To take off the stem, turn it on itself (as if it was screwed on) while pulling gently. Once it is off, take out the filter (if your pipe has one) and take a pipe cleaner. Run the pipe cleaner through the stem. By doing so, the impurities will be absorbed by the pipe cleaner. Of course, if the pipe cleaner is very dirty once you pull it out, do not hesitate to repeat these steps with clean ones!
